Fillings

Fillings are used to fill cavities in teeth. They are usually made of amalgam (metal) or white fillings (tooth coloured composite material).

White fillings can be used to restore teeth which have been affected by decay or replace amalgam fillings for aesthetic reasons. The main benefit of white fillings is cosmetic, and because they bond to the teeth they often require removal of less tooth structure than metal fillings. Some people are also concerned about the risks of the mercury contained in silver fillings.
