Inlays and Overlays

Inlays and onlays can be used instead of conventional fillings to repair damaged teeth. Inlays and onlays are made outside of the mouth, usually in a dental laboratory on a model of your teeth, and then bonded to the tooth in the surgery. They are stronger than conventional fillings.

An inlay sits in a hole in the tooth. An onlay sits on the tooth and builds up its shape. Inlays and onlays can be made in tooth-coloured porcelain, gold, metal alloy or a tooth coloured filling material called composite. Different materials are suitable for different areas of the mouth.
